Aupark Shopping Centre 

The first BREEAM® 'Excellent' shopping centre in Slovakia

Gleeds was appointed as technical supervisor, project and cost manager for the refurbishment of the Aupark shopping centre in Bratislava. Inspired by an open plan city garden, the aim of the project was to improve the visitor experience and crowd flow.

BREEAM® certificate

Gleeds prepared all documents required for the international BREEAM® ’Excellent’ certificate. We helped to implement solutions that allowed Aupark to be the first shopping centre in Slovakia to be awarded the highest level in BREEAM® rating for building and management.

Refurbishing with finesse

We managed and coordinated a total of 350 professionals for the Aupark renovation. The refurbishment was designed in Urban Chic style and was divided into several phases.

The most significant change was made in the main atrium where the old glass staircase, elevators and fountain were replaced with escalators with a 3,600 people per hour capacity, a brand new panoramic elevator and a new fountain with wave effects.

The refurbishment also involved brand new toilets, a new playground for children,  new ceilings, LED lights that simulate natural light, a navigation system and new flooring made with 624 tonnes of Spanish marble. New rest zones were designed to include tablet and PC chargers with Wi-Fi connection.
