We created a bespoke setting for designer brands.

McArthurGlen’s 75-store designer outlet in Roubaix, near Lille, enables local and international shoppers to find many of the best fashion labels under one roof. 

The designer outlet group prides itself on its brands, its prices and its architecture – and believes in creating bespoke spaces worthy of the labels on offer.

A window of opportunity

McArthurGlen turned to Gleeds to improve the retail experience for many thousands of visitors to the outlet every year.

Challenges included: 

• Working in a live environment while shops were open
• Completing works before a peak sales period 
• Restricted access on site
• Cherry picker limited to specific times

Made to measure services

To ensure shopping could continue, we zoned work and operated at night. And because public areas were being privatised, we negotiated with the local authority to remove existing gates, lights and fences. We also helped create and install:

• Clearer signage and CCTV
• Improved entry zones 
• Attractive street furniture, landscaping and relaxation areas

The project was completed within the agreed timetable and budget, meaning a successful outcome for McArthurGlen and an uninterrupted shopping experience for France’s fashionistas.
