The Proton Beam Therapy Centre is currently in the construction phase at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust in Manchester. The Christie is the first UK centre to be accredited as a comprehensive cancer centre.
The £75m proton therapy centre was procured using the NHS ProCure21+ Framework and is being delivered by Interserve Construction Limited.
The Gleeds healthcare team provided extensive cost planning, option appraisals, production of Bills of Quantities and Contract drafting support to the Interserve team during the design and preconstruction phases.
When completed in 2018 the unit will be the first of its kind in the UK and therefore will be the first to offer this specific treatment. The unit will provide three treatment rooms for the Trust and a fourth treatment room to be utilised for research purposes. The facility will therefore have a positive, measurable improvement in the treatment of specific cancer types in the North of England and Wales.
