UWE Community Stadium

Managing a team with several goals

Bristol Rovers FC and the University of the West of England (UWE) have appointed Gleeds to oversee the creation of a new state-of-the-art stadium that will host international rugby and football matches, create an income and generate nearly 300 jobs.

To help generate the required funds, we’re also working with developers to secure the sale of the team’s old Memorial Stadium.

Getting the ball rolling

Our team is using its experience of developing sports stadia to help create a 21,700-seat stadium that will also include:

  • Sports bar and club
  • Banqueting suite
  • Venue space for hire and ability to host concerts
  • Club gym for student and community use
  • All-weather jogging track
  • Rooms for student club activities
  • Media teaching space
  • Convenience store

UWE

students will be able to monitor construction as part of their courses (where relevant) and work with the club on marketing, promotion and event management.

Everyone’s a winner

Bristol Rovers FC doesn’t have Premiership-level resources. So Gleeds is working with UWE, who owns the land, to create a development that provides income 7 days a week, to ensure its future is secure.

Students will benefit, too. As well as being able to use the pitch for varsity matches and use the facilities, they’ll also be able to access professional coaches. Students on relevant degree courses will be able to monitor construction and work with the club on marketing, promotion and event management.

Gleeds is carefully handling relationships to deliver all of this to a very tight schedule and budget. Our global ambassador, Sir Steve Redgrave, visited the site in 2011 to lend his support to the project.
